According to information released by the Elk Grove City Clerk's office this afternoon, LaWanna Montgomery has drawn nomination papers for the Elk Grove Mayoral race.
Montgomery's presumed entry into the race is her third attempt in the last eight years to seek a position on the Elk Grove City Council. In 2008, Montgomery ran against incumbent Jim Cooper and despite little name recognition and thin campaign financing, was able to capture over 41 percent of the popular vote.
In 2004 Montgomery drew 10 percent of the vote in a five way race.

In other local election news, James White has also drawn nominating papers to run for the city's District 1 seat against incumbent Jim Cooper.
